Journey Home

I arrived in Fredonia on Sunday in the evening. It was so nice to be home, but I had many adventures on the way home. I was able to stay with my cousin Bronwen over the weekend and it was such a blast! We went horseback ridding, did some shopping (during the time I found a Jelly Bean section...Yummy!!), went out to eat, watched movies til way late, hung out with friends and so many other things. Thanks for the fun time!

When arriving at home one of the first things I noticed were the Christmas decorations all over the house. Now, my mom usually goes all out for Christmas (It's amazing, I love it!) but this year she went above and beyond. She did such an amazing job! We have a banana plant in our house at the moment and she even wrapped it in Christmas lights! Pictures will follow of course!

Within the next few days, my brother and sister had a band concert. They did a good job in it! Our school (Not exactly the best at anything. With only 60 something students in the High School all together, what's to be expected?) just required new band uniforms for concerts and I had a huge laugh at them and was enjoying it so much I put it on and took a picture. So below is a picture of me and then of my sister with her friend Jaicee.

Also this week,  I got a haircut and so did my mom. In the picture I have it is curled, so you can't tell all that much. The main thing we did is just adding layers. Anyways it has been an adventure being home and with Christmas just a few days away, everyone is so excited!

Today I was able to go to St. George with my sister, cousins, and mom. I had such a fun time. We went to a few stores and then went to Panda Express which was just fantastic. I love Chinese food! Following Panda Express, we went to Wal-Mart where we ran into another group of friends. It has just been such a great week I can't even put it all into words. This is me signing out until next time!

Preparing for Departure

Well at one point the time comes for everyone to pack things up and prepare for moving. My move this past week however wasn't too drastic. It was just across the hall. Since we hired professional cleaners to white glove our apartment for us we had to pile everything on our beds. Take a look below to see the final product. It was surprising everything had a place if I do say so myself.

Here's a question to all you out there that vacuum the floors of a house full of girls. Ever had to release the vacuum from the clutches of hair? Our vacuum was such a vacuum. In a total of 30 minutes I was able to get about half of the hair removed from the vacuum and it improved a great deal. Never did finish the job though..poor thing. Anyways check out the picture below to get a look at the hairball collected from such a job. This is just half mind you. The rest is still in the vacuum.

Has anyone ever had a craving for a pie? A while ago my roommate Jenny and I  had such a craving. We satisfied it by making 3 Pumpkin pies that night. Here is a pic of Jenny making the crust :]

Education Continues

So it is now December 16, 2011 and the semester is now over!  I can't believe how quickly the months have gone by. It has been such a wonderful experience being at college and continuing my education. I dare all of you out there to continue with your education no matter what level that may be. Education is so important. President Ezra Taft Benson said the following about education:

"Let us never lose sight of the fact that education is a preparation for life -- and that preparing for life is far more than knowing how to make a living or how to land on the moon. Preparing for life means building personal integrity, developing a sound sense of values, increasing the capacity and willingness to serve. Education must have its roots in moral principles. If we lose sight of that fact in our attempt to match our educational system against that of the materialists, we shall have lost far more than we could possibly gain."

We need to be able to stand up for the good in education. A good educations will be a tool that will be used throughout our entire life. I strongly encourage all you out there to finish high school and gain your diplomas, but let you gain that diploma with the knowledge that no matter the outcome you did the best you could there. I know that education is important and that as you continue yours you will be blessed.

Pulling an All Nighter??

If you find yourself pulling all nighters too, here are some helpful tips.

1.If you know you are pulling an all nighter, first and foresmost, take a two or three hour afternoon nap so you have more energy during the night.
2
Watch some videos if possible or a scary movie if it is possible for you. Be careful, though, that you don't get too distracted by the movie to actually get work done.
3
Do your work. Plenty of times, you get sidetracked. Avoid this by setting a constant pace for yourself: 50 minutes of work, and a 10 minute break. Besides, keeping your mind occupied will make it easier to stay awake.
4
Move! Dance! Stretch! Not so often that it becomes a distraction; just while taking that hourly 10 minute break.
5
Avoid caffeine, if possible. See warnings for reasons why. Drink two brimming glasses of ice cold water every 30 minutes. Not only will the cold keep you awake, but you'll need to urinate very often. It's difficult to sleep on the toilet.
6
Play (softly, if you have a roommate) hardcore metal music. You may enjoy it, but it must be, at all costs, harsh and a bit arrhythmic. Try to stick to instrumental music, which is less distracting. This will keep you from being lulled to sleep.
7
Work with windows open: cold air will keep you awake. Warm air knocks you out. If you find the cold air is effective in keeping you awake, you can even go to the bathroom and wash your face with cold water. Only wash your face if you are getting tired, you don't want to waste studying time.
8
Set your computer screen to a lower setting, (duller and darker) so as not to strain your eyes. See warnings for why not to.
9
Turn off instant messengers, your cellphone, the TV, and do not surf the internet, edit wikiHow, read, draw, etc. In fact, pinch yourself if you do. This can distract you very easily.
10
Do not work in bed, on a couch, or on the floor. If you work in any other place than a cold, hard table and chair, you will feel very tempted to sleep. If possible, work somewhere far away from your room/bed, so it's a pain to go back and sleep. Try to be around some other people, too, so you do not feel comfortable sleeping in your chair.
11
Set a timer, if you're going to nap. Don't nap for more than 20 minutes, and stay half-awake. Avoid napping at all costs, though. "Just 20 minutes of relaxation" will more likely involve you waking up past your class the next day.
12
Rotate subjects every hour, if applicable. You'll quickly mentally wear out on one topic.
13
Work through it all. If you have time at the end, pack up your stuff, lay out your clothes, then set your alarm as late as possible, to achieve the most possible sleep.
14
Try sitting in different places around the room.
15
Remember: if you are tired and are completely slumping over your work, sit up straight. It could immediately make you feel more awake. Yes, it sounds stupid, but try it.
16
Eat protein-rich foods like sandwiches, cheese, and other dairy products. Sugary foods may make you feel awake for a little while, but can eventually make you feel drowsy. Apples or apple juice also help, especially if you eat cheese with it. Apples keep your blood sugar stable so you're able to stay awake longer, some say they're better than caffeine!
17
Think positively. Thoughts such as: "I am almost done," "This is actually not too bad," "I will get to see the sunrise," "I will get a good grade" can definitely help.
18
Get scared. Sure, it sounds silly, but do it. Watch a horror movie or read something frightening. You'll be too scared to fall asleep. This is best used when you're at the end of the night and need to get through that last little bit, and make sure the movie goes straight to the action, it's easy to fall asleep in dull moments. Do not do this if there is work to be finished, though!
19
Note: if you are tired and bored of studying the same thing over and over again, remain positive. You can even try to make a game out of it so studying won't be so strenuous and dull. (It sometimes helps to time how fast you get math problems done, and try to beat that time.)
20
Tap your feet! It may seem weird, but it helps for some people to consistently tap their feet. If it becomes a habit, it might just save you from falling asleep at those final dire moments.
21
Chew gum. Like tapping your feet, it keeps you awake without being distracting!
22
Squeeze and massage your ears. There are acupoints on your ears, and when stimulated, send electrical signals into your brain. You'll feel buzzed immediately.
23
Don't eat granola, milk, lemons, or turkey. These are all foods that will make you tired and sleepy.
24
Always have the light on. It's hard to stay awake when you're in a nice, dark room.
25
Don't think about anything luxurious, such as being in a mansion or in a hot tub, you will feel relaxed.
26
Don't write poetry or quietly sing songs, draw, or even play with your hair while day dreaming. This will calm you.
27
Don't yawn. You're yawning because you are taking in less oxygen, and that means your breathing is steady, light, and slow. You don't want that.
28
Laughing a lot helps keeps you busy and entertains you.
29
If you have an energy drink or coffee, take 1 SMALL sip every 30 minutes. It keeps you awake without the crash. If you feel like you are going to really fall asleep, close your eyes and put an icecube on them. You will feel awake immediately!
30
Don't lay in bed with your eyes closed. You will fall asleep.

Thanksgiving in Fredonia!!

Last week I was able to go down to Fredonia to visit my family. On the way to Kanab from Provo Tuesday we hit a deer. Car is banged up and other than some whiplash and bruises we are all fine. With our car being out of action my Uncle Ben and Aunt Jill let us use their car for the week.

Wednesday I got to catch up with all my friends which was pretty fun. Towards the end of the day, me, Caleb, and Alyssa went out to the old corral to go shooting. We saw a cottontail on the way out but didn't get a shot. We didn't see anything after that. Had a fun time shooting targets though.

Thursday came and what do you know, it is Thanksgiving! The one thing I love most of all about Thanksgiving is everyone coming together and the food. It was so nice to see everyone there.

Friday was my dad's birthday. I know this is late, but I want to give a shout out: Happy Birthday Daddy! Love you tons!

My mom, Alyssa, and I went over to my grandma's house Friday morning and did a few crafts for a couple hours. Made some bracelets and earrings. Later that day Caleb, Alyssa, and I went shooting again. It was fun like usual. We went out to Cottontail Canyon this time. After coming back from shooting, me, mom, and Alyssa went to the store and got a movie and a few things for my dad. It was his birthday after all. :] We watched X Men First Class. Pretty good movie.

Saturday came and it was time to get ready for family pictures. When we were all ready we went to the photographer's studio and ended up going to an abandoned house to take our pictures. I'm super excited to see how they turned out. From being there, I'm sure they were great :]

Anywho, I had to leave that night and so I packed my bags and then hit the road for Provo with my Uncle Ben. Made it to my cousin Bronwen's house around midnight. I got to visit with them for a while so that was nice. Woke up and got ready to leave. My Uncle Bake drove me to my cousin Sam's house where my friend Brennin picked me up and we headed back to Rexburg. Made it to the apartment at about 3:30 that afternoon which worked out well.

Since then I've had most of my classes, got homework done in time, but haven't been able to complete my rough draft for my research paper yet. Hopefully I can finish it by Friday for class. I think as long as I finish my outline, resources, and a few other small things I should be ok since we are working on our rough drafts in class. Oh well :]

Fencing has been going really well. It is only my second week, but I am really loving it. You wouldn't believe how much you actually have to work in order to do things correctly. We actually took a group picture this week and so I'm glad that I joined before it was taken.

Well, enough procrastination..I must get back to my research paper on cloning and Genetically Modified Organisms. Until next time!

Horsemanship 2

Well this class was only a first block class and so it ended a few weeks ago. Below are some pictures of all of us with our horses. Excuse the quality..our phones don't take very good pictures.

Rachel and Navajo

Kristi and Fleet

Me and Jake

Elliot and Superman

Elana and Poncho (I think)

Me and Jake again..its super blurry. This one is here to show you him with his saddle on all the way.

When one gets bored..

Well many things happen when we get bored up here..we play nintendo and start yelling at each other and shouting and laughing so loud that our neighbors txt and ask if we are ok. We also bake tons of cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and other delicious treats that make us fat. :] Then if nothing else, we find ourselves creating odd hairstyles and of course finding amazing quotes that explain our life. Here's some of these amazing things in action!

So close!

Wow, time flies huh? Next week is Thanksgiving! Oh, and we cannot forget my daddy's birthday!! Love You dad!

Everything has been going well here at BYU-I. It has snowed a few times and is going to snow a lot more, but hey, it isn't all that bad. I'll take is with a skip in my walk and a smile on my face, because who knows, maybe it will be great!

Midterms have been over for a while. They were alright I suppose, but hey no big deal. All I have to do is try my best, and I know I can do better, so that's what I plan to do. With classes, I only have about 3 more times of my writing foundations class, but quite a few more for my other classes. They have all been going well. Grades are getting higher. Steady but slow. That's not bad though, that's how the tortoise won the race, right? Oh, in my BOM class we are just finishing up 3 Nephi, but I just finished 4th Nephi. (Not that much further I know, but hey, it's progress) I'm pretty excited about it. If I keep it up, I will have the Book of Mormon finished before I am out for Christmas!!

This past week we had an Iron Chef competition between the La Jolla Apartments and their FHE groups. We didn't place, but I thought we did an amazing job! It was super fun which is the whole point in doing it in the first place. Besides that, here is a run down since I last posted. My amazing parents came to visit me here in rexburg! I had such a great time with them! And I get to see everyone in less than 5 days!!

Anywho, I went to a Halloween concert last month, been to Kiwi Loco a few times, spent time with friends, went on 2 dates, flew paper airplanes off the stadium, ran around in the snow, sat in the apartment and had huge Nintendo 64 tournaments, studied, a lot, read some great books, planned out my winter semester, created a DeviantART account, made some new backgrounds, watched some new movies, talked to my family tons, and you know, everything else.

Touché!

Joined the fencing club at BYU-I today! It is so much fun, and it is a ton harder than I thought it would have been. Me and Jenny were with 2 other beginners and for the first hour, the instructors taught us form, footing, and a few other things. The second hour we had free fencing. We got to go against each other and go against the other members, including the instructors. It was pretty fun, and it really helped to go against people a ton more advanced in fencing than myself. I can't wait to go back!

Already Running Behind!

Well, I figured this might happen. Sorry about such a long delay! I will do a quick update on how things have been going lately.

Class have been going pretty well. Human Anatomy & Physiology has its ups and downs, but doesn't every challenging class? I still think that my A&P Lab and my BOM class have to be my favorite. Who'd a thought? In my horsemanship class we have been doing all sorts of fun activities including tag, relay racing, barrel racing, trail riding, etc. At one point in the class they gave everyone new horses and one of the horses I rode that day was MASSIVE! His name was thumper. Believe it or not, it took both hands and all my strength to turn his head one way. He was soo stubborn.

Anyways, other than that the devotionals have been really good. Elaine Dalton spoke to us last week. It was such an amazing talk. I loved it! I think I may want to get all the Devotional talks at the end of the year.

Last week I went to the Haunted Straw Maze here in Rexburg with a bunch of people. At the beginning it freaked me out. What can I say? The people there would get right up in your face and it didn't help that there were some strobe lights that would blind you around the corners! Overall though it was really fun. We all got some ice cream afterwards and played Freeze Out on the way home. I survive the round and I was even eating ice cream! It was pretty awesome. About sometime that night I messed up my foot and it was pretty swollen. On Monday it was still the same and so I went to the Health Center on campus to get it checked out. No brake or anything, just a bad sprain. I was so relieved. Well its time for Devotional for this week! I'll make sure to tell you guys how it goes! I have a feeling it will be fantastic. Oh, did I mention it snowed a few weeks ago? Don't believe me? Check out the pic below! Hahaha it was great!!

Trail Ride and Other

Well in my Horsemanship class today we went on a two hour trail ride near the snake rive. It was super fun and enjoyed it. Here is a few pics from the trail ride and from around my apartment complex.
