Not the laptop!!

Well..I have a confession to make..Milk split all over my keyboard on my laptop!! As soon as I realized what happened, I ran and grabbed a towel to mop it up. I then shut off my computer, flipped it upside down to drain. About 5 hours later, as I picked it up, I noticed more milk leaking from the CD drive and the SD memory slot. That's when I took out my keyboard. I looked down near my motherboard and realized the milk stopped right before it touched it! I was soo lucky! So for the next 3 hours, me and my roommate Taelor cleaned my laptop and keyboard. It took another 24 hours before my keyboard was dry though. There was milk trapped in there that I couldn't get rid of. Put it all together again tonight and found out that my computer works just fine! Nothing is messed up, thank goodness! 

Elections are here!

So it has come to that point in time where we are voting for our president again. It's crazy to think that 4 years have already come and gone. Let's hope that the next 4 years are good to us. On a side note..I saw this on Twitter and found it quite hilarious.

**UPDATE**

Well it seems that our country has elected Barack Obama for another 4 years. Now, I may not like him, but there is not much we can do about it. I wish him good luck and good judgement..Since that probably isn't possible, I will prepare for our end. On a side note, I thought that Mitt Romney's speech was very touching. Well done Mr. Romney, well done. Oh and a few more interesting things I found after the results came in:

Food??

So even though we are all at college we sure don't live off ramen noodles unless we want to. All of us actually cook a ton, especially Jenny and Michelle. Those girls are always cooking, but no matter what it is, it is usually delicious! So in honor of the epic food, here are some pictures :)

 
 

Odds and Ends

Here are a few random moments that have happened in the past few weeks:

OK, so sometimes believe it or not, it is very hard to stay awake in a 7:45 am Doctrine and Covenants class. So what do I do to keep myself awake? Well I doodle, and write some notes, and take pictures.

So, at times it can be cold here in Rexburg believe it or not, but not cold enough for a big jacket. This kind of weather has been our constant companion for the past 2 weeks. So because of that, this is what I usually look like. 

Got new shoes last week and this is what they look like! I was super excited for them and they came a day after I ordered them! 

For my 'Homer to Tolkien: A Quest in the Arts' class, we are reading the LOTR trilogy and the Odyssey. I now own all 4 books by Tolkien and the Odyssey by Homer. I just need the Iliad now :]

There will be no portrait photos in this post.  This letter wasn’t mailed – it was at my doorstep when I got home a couple months ago.  I read it, I cried, and read it again – probably a hundred times by now.  It wasn’t easy to read – and honestly, as much as it validates what I do for a living – I wasn’t sure I was going to share it either – Until today, when a past client said that my print prices were too expensive.  If you choose to read through the letter, you will know why I’ve finally chosen to share it.

Today I am writing for a couple of reasons.  I have some quiet time at the moment and need to get a couple of things off my mind.  I will leave this for my husband to deliver to you when he is ready.
You photographed my wedding, you photographed my first pregnancy and my first baby.  I contacted you awhile back to photograph my 2nd child and family.  After getting prices and realizing I would want all of the pictures as we love your work – I decided against spending $500+ – which is what I normally spend for portraits and prints with you..  Please know it is not because I don’t value your amazing eye, or how much we love the experience.

That week that I decided to NOT do a session with you, this is how I spent some money.
On Sunday I called and cancelled our session.  Monday I went out and got my hair cut ($39+tip), and colored ($65), Thursday I had my nails done ($24), my family went out to dinner at a somewhat expensive restaurant for no particular reason costing us $79 + tip.  This was just 4 days since canceling our session, already totaling over $200 for un necessary things.  My nails only lasted about 2 weeks, my hair is gone, and seven weeks passed when I got the phone call from our doctor.  It was not something I expected and the cancer has spread very quickly.  I will be leaving my husband, my 6 year old girl and my now 2 year old – not by choice.  It is very hard for me to talk about it which is why I need to write you.

I watch your Facebook page and your posts about the value of a photo and if I could give back all of those things that I purchased this few weeks after I cancelled my session with you, knowing what I know now, and have that session, well… I would do it in a heartbeat. 

Now my time is done and there are no more chances for me.  The next time someone cancels a session – my wish is that you forward this letter to them.  Time is fragile, it is gone before you know you had it.  If you charged $200 for one print it wouldn’t be enough for what it is actually worth.  I cringe to think that my priorities were a manicure over a memory to pass onto my babies and husband.

My love and thanks for what you have given us from past photos.  I am so sorry that I did not see it as more than paper until now.

Me and my family watched this movie Christmas Eve while we were taking care of a few last minute things before Christmas. Based on a true story, it is really a good story. Family is indeed worth fighting for.

My chickens!

So I love chickens and we finally got some! Here are my original 9. They are a week old in the first few pictures. The pictures afterwards are of the original 9 plus 12 more I got later on at about 4 months.

4 French Braids

If you haven't learned how to french braid - you must!! You can do SO much with french braiding. I was a little unsure if I would be able to do the upside down french braids today, because I've had her lay down & braid before & she did not like that. So I tried it a different way & I think it turned out darling!!






We are going to part the hair into quarters. It's easiest if you start by parting the hair straight down the middle. Clip the one half off to the side. Now divide the other half right down the middle horizontally & clip the bottom part so now you are just working with the top.



French braid the top part & put your elastic in. Then I went to the left top & french braided that also (dividing the hair in half just like the other half)



Now french braid the underneath part.



Almost done with braiding - the last little section. The way that I did the upside down french braids were instead of having her flip her hair over & lay over the bed (easiest but most uncooperative:) I parted where I started the braid & flipped the rest of the hair up, just like the picture. I got over on top of her & went to town. Some of the top pieces will fall down but as long as you have your grip on your 3 braiding pieces, you should be fine. It was a lot easier than what I thought!!





Now, you have your four braids. I put them into pigtails next. But I criss-crossed the top, to pull the sides tighter (you know how you get that loose look sometimes - I didn't want that). But I DID NOT criss-cross the bottoms. I criss-crossed the top & just pulled the bottom braids right up. Do the pigtails as close as possible, almost looking like one pony tail.



I did the messy bun, because her hair is so long. If it wasn't, I probably wouldn't do messy buns so often.



Spray the hair to hold & you are finished!!

What's up with this?

Breaking Dawn!

Saturday morning at midnight, Breaking Dawn was released. I couldn't wait to go to Wal-Mart to go get my copy of the final book to the Twilight Saga. Around 2:00pm Saterday me and my mom went to Wal-Mart and went right for the book :) I was soo excited that I was about to get my copy. As soon as I got it and got in line for it (which was short thank goodness)I looked around and I saw about 6 people with the same book just in the same line. When I paid for it and was heading home I started reading it. Of course my mom started laughing..I mean who wouldn't? I bet the people working at Wal-Mart got a kick out of watching all of us grabbing our copy and starting to read it even before we were out of the store. Me and my friends who have finished it all agree it was a very exciting book. We are all sad that there will not be another book after this one, but we realized that Stephenie Meyer was probably right by stopping there. Who knows..maybe we will see a 2nd series with all of our favorite characters :D
